Academic Support

UMBC is dedicated to student success. The Learning Resources Center (LRC) provides assistance outside of class to improve study skills, facilitate content understanding, and to build a strong foundation for self-directed learning, an important skill for professionals in every field.

Math & Science Tutoring Center

Math, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Physics, Computer Science and Spanish tutoring

During the summer, the LRC provides tutoring for a variety of Math, Science, Economics and Spanish courses.  Walk-in and online hours are available and will be held in the Math Lab space located behind the Reference Desk on the first floor of the library. You do not need an appointment for walk-in hours, just come by!

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support model that utilizes peer assisted study sessions (PASS). The PASS SI program targets traditionally difficult academic courses and provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions. The sessions are informal seminars in which students compare notes, discuss readings and develop organizational tools and predict test items.

Writing Center

We can work with you at any stage of the writing process, brainstorming to final draft!

The LRC provides support for ANY written assignment in ANY summer course. Online and face-to-face tutoring is available.  Tutors will focus on your thesis statement and organizational strategy before discussing citation issues or grammatical errors. All appointments must be scheduled at least one day in advance.
